Patchwork Fairy

I wanted to show you my first painting of 2014:) I actually have started working on it on 31st of Dec but I finished her on 1st Jan 2014:). I used the patchwork method (which I named myself), it means that I created paper patchwork background, which was my starting point for the painting.

  1. Tear pieces of interesting pattern paper and glue it to the canvas.

2. Add white paint or gesso around each paper square to soften its edges. If you applied to much paint, wipe it off with baby wipes.

3. Outline some interesting shapes to create flowers, hearts or other additional objects surrounding the girl, than you are ready to outline our fairy. I used the watercolour crayon in a Bark color (dark brown)

4. I also added some paint around the girl. If you are going for a vintage design, mint colour looks great!!!

5. I painted face and went for turquoise eyes:) I also added butterfly wings, printed from internet. I also added some brown ink to the edges to add more vintage feel to whole piece. And my fairy is ready!!!! I love her!!!! I hope that I encourage you to create your own. I will be teaching how to create this art piece in my upcoming workshop in Galway, Ireland.

Christmas Art:)

I love creating special Christmas Art. I promised myself that every year I will be adding hand made items to my Christmas Decorations. I will be also selling my art work in Christmas markets so I came up with few ideas:                 My Christmas Cards
Christmas candle holders.                  Little gift for my friends wrapped in a quick but arty way:)

Mixed media backgrounds

I think that creating backgrounds is my favourite part of painting process. I just make lots of layers, playing with different supplies and painting techniques. Some of them include: using brush, roller, sponge with acrylics, drawing with watercolour crayons, doodling with 3D fabric paint, collage with decorative paper and using hand made stamps:)

My little Fairies:)

 Wikipedia is saying:
fairy (also faeryfaeriefayfaeeuphemistically wee folkgood folkpeople of peacefair folk, etc.)[1] is a type of mythical being orlegendary creature, a form of spirit, often described as metaphysicalsupernatural or preternatural. Fairies resemble various beings of other mythologies, though even folklore that uses the term fairy offers many definitions. Sometimes the term describes any magical creature, includinggoblins or gnomes: at other times, the term only describes a specific type of more ethereal creature.[2]
Fairies are generally described as human in appearance and having magical powers. Their origins are less clear in the folklore, being variously dead, or some form of demon, or a species completely independent of humans or angels.[3] Folklorists have suggested that their actual origin lies in a conquered race living in hiding,[4] or in religious beliefs that lost currency with the advent of Christianity.[5] These explanations are not necessarily incompatible, and they may be traceable to multiple sources.

There is something magical and whimsical  about fairies and I love to capture it in my paintings:

Stone houses

Recently I went for a trip to beautiful Achill Island and while everybody was admiring views, I was collecting big stones...I wanted to make some decoration to my garden:)

I applied gesso first, than acrylics, stamps, rub-ons and varnish.

They look really cute in the garden

Art Camp for Kids

I have decided to try something new this year, as workshops for little people were in my mind since long time:) I have decided to do 4 days of ars&craft workshop for kids this summer. I invited good friend of mine Katarzyna Voetter to join me in this idea. She is an amazing dance teacher and we put two heads together and planned 4 days fully packed with mixed media, arts&craft, gymnastic and dance. The camp will take place in Cois Chlair Claregalway, Co. Galway, Ireland. Near the Arches Hotel there is a complex of office units and one of them has been done up recently and converted into 'Space To Create' The space is great!!! perfect for 20 little people:) We decided that the camp will be for children between ages 5 and 12. Door will be open at 9.30, and pick up at 2.30. Children have to bring their own lunch. We will have two hours of art, break and two hours of dance& gymnastic. Children will be supervised by myself and Kasia. Both of us are insured and trained in working with children and we both have lots of experience in facilitating workshops with little ones:)
I am soooo excited about this camp. Myself and Kasia are coming up with more and more fantastic and creative ideas for our little artist!!!! Trust me, they will LOVE IT!!!
